WEST-MOS name comes from "Western Europe Sea Transport & Motorways of the Sea". The project receives a european financial aid in the field of trans-European infrastructure networks and in the framework of annual transport programming (TEN-T)
In June of 2005 a joint request of aid was made by four Member States. The request received the support of the European Commission for:
The project started on 01/09/2005 and ended on 31/12/2008.
The project delivered a range of generic and specific studies aimed at preparing, identifying, analysing and supporting the selection of Motorways of the sea links within these corridors. The selection of Motorways of the sea links took place through a tendering process to which the project provided support.
The project was carried out with the co-operation of a number of ports in that area that will provide basic input that will help to prepare decisions on the Motorways of the sea.
